The World Comes Home.

150 films. 11 venues spread across the city. 2600 delegates. Distinguished international and national guests.  A meaningful interface with the industry at the Film Market. A gala opening ceremony and a grand finale. The 17th edition of Kolkata Film Festival is coming alive on 10th November, 2011 in Kolkata, the city of emotion and of cinema.

It is a festival of emotions where 150 movies of myriad shades will strum every cord of human emotions in their subtlest to the most dramatic fashion. They will touch lives of people around the globe in their truest social, political and emotional context throwing lights in the darkness of soul and beyond.

Ranging from a bouquet of tributes to old masters to a meaningful collection of contemporary world cinema, the 17th edition of the Kolkata Film Festival embodies the spirit of change and of plurality of thought and emotion , and harmonizes the old with the new, the traditional with the contemporary and the far with the near.

BENGAL FILM PRODUCERS’ FORUM — A REVOLUTION — Snow capped mountain peaks to the blue sea, lush forests to the solitude of unyielding red dry lands—our BENGAL truly overflows with the sights of profound beauty. Mother Nature has been kind and generous to give us a vast abundance of sites like Darjeeling, Dooars, Susnia, Digha and the Sundarbans. Our film artists and background artists are world renowned. Although our technicians are highly skilled, they take low remunerations. Under the auspices of our honorable chief minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee – traveling and tourism agencies, transportation, government permits, police assistance, lodging etc. has prospered in leaps and bounds and is now comparable to the well-developed countries. Where else really can one find a better locale for film making?

Though we are blessed with such bountiful resources, our producers can’t profit after making good films. Making of a good film needs a basic and healthy infrastructure. Unfortunately, due to the politicizing of the resources by the previous government, this has only been a dream- till now. Many renowned Bengali film producers have thus exited the world of film making. Now, only a handful of people are exploiting and enjoying the resources of the Bengali film industry and the rest of us remain a deprived lot. To stand up and fight for our legitimate rights, we have created our own Bengal Film Producers’ Forum. Our earnest requests to you – Please come forth and produce films in our beautiful Bengal. With all politics set aside, our forum will provide possible technical & legal assistance, such that you may produce memorable films at a competitive price.
